Om 16.30 uur vangt de wedstrijd Chelsea FC – AS Monaco aan. De beide fysiek sterke ploegen houden elkaar in de eerste fase van de wedstrijd goed in evenwicht. Het eerste gevaar komt van de Engelsen. Een schot van Reggie Watson wordt licht van richting veranderd en belandt op de paal. De daaropvolgende corner levert niets op.

In het vervolg van de eerste helft heeft Chelsea het meeste balbezit, maar de gevaarlijkste kansen zijn voor de Monegasken. Zo verovert Serigne Malick Sylla (AS Monaco) de bal op het middenveld en via Nael Haddani ontvangt hij de bal weer terug. Zijn schot wordt echter geblokt. Stand blijft 0-0. Direct daarna is het alsnog 1-0 voor de Fransen, als Nael Haddani goed afrondt.

Op slag van rust komt Sol Gordon (Chelsea) alleen voor keeper Yanis Benchaouch Marty, maar de keeper zorgt er met een knappe redding voor dat AS Monaco met een voorsprong de rust in gaat.

Na rust volgen de doelpunten elkaar snel op. Eerst is het Serigne Malick Sylla die de Monegasken met een geplaatst schot op 2-0 zet. Twee minuten later leidt slordig balverlies van Ibrahim Rabbaj een kans in voor Chelsea, maar Ilies Belmokhtar schiet over.

Na 27 minuten is het wel raak voor Chelsea. Een vrije trap van Reggie Watson komt via de muur terug bij Lewi Richards en die doet met een fabelachtig schot een gooi naar ‘het doelpunt van het toernooi’, want zijn strakke schot eindigt in de kruising. Doordat direct daarna Mahis Eboue wordt diep gestuurd en de bal onberispelijk binnen schiet, is de spanning in de wedstrijd weer helemaal terug.
Het is echter AS Monaco dat al weer snel orde op zaken stelt. Twee minuten na de gelijkmaker is het namelijk Kenan Moulangou die AS Monaco weer op voorsprong zet: 2-3.

Veel verder dan een van richting veranderd schot van Ibrahim Rabbaj, dat kan worden gepakt door doelman Marty komen de Engelsen niet in het restant van de wedstrijd. Dit betekent dat de ploeg van voormalig Champions League-winnaar Djimi Traoré het toernooi met een overwinning begint.

Just before halftime, Sol Gordon (Chelsea) finds himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Yanis Benchaouch Marty, but the AS Monaco keeper pulls off a brilliant save to preserve the lead heading into the break.

In the 27th minute, Chelsea finally finds the net. A free kick from Reggie Watson rebounds off the wall and lands at the feet of Lewi Richards, who unleashes a stunning strike into the top corner—possibly a contender for goal of the tournament. The tension escalates as Mathis Eboue is played through immediately after and finishes with precision to level the score at 2–2.

But AS Monaco quickly regains control. Just two minutes after the equalizer, Kenan Moulangou restores the lead with a composed finish: 3–2.

Chelsea pushes forward, but the closest they come is a deflected shot from Ibrahim Rabbaj, which is comfortably saved by Marty. And so, the team led by former Champions League winner Djimi Traoré kicks off the tournament with a hard-fought victory.
