Jeonbuk begint met veel energie, al kan Atletico er makkelijk onderuit voetballen.
Na 4 minuten is de eerste kans voor Atletico. Een vrije trap van Alvaro Tamargo beland echter op de paal. In de 8e minuut is het Jaejun Lee die uit een hoekschop vrij in kan koppen en de Koreanen op 1-0 zet. Hierna krijgt Atletico wel langzamerhand de overhand en krijgt Gabriel Obama een niet te missen kans. Op miraculeuze wijze weet hij geheel vrijstand de bal toch over het doel te werken.
Ruststand 1-0.

Drie minuten na het begin van de tweede helft krijgt Jeonbuk een gele kaart en moet het 4 minuten met een man minder spelen. Vrijwel direct profiteert Atletico hiervan. Captain Oscar Bazaga schiet beheerst binnen 1-1. De Spanjaarden pakken de Koreanen nu bij de strot en scoren bijna een tweede treffer. Het schot van Fitzgerald beland echter op de lat. Hierna gaat de wedstrijd weer wat gelijker op en komt de Spaanse furie vooral van de zijlijn. Dit leidt uiteindelijk tot nog een rode kaart voor een staflid van Atletico en een gele kaart voor Miquel Gil. Voor de stand maakt het niets meer uit, want die blijft 1-1.

Jeonbuk immediately puts in a lot of energy, but Atletico easily withstands the efforts.
First chance is for Atletico. An Alvaro Tamargo free kick hits the post. An 8th minute header by Jeajun Lee puts the Koreans 1-0 up. Obviously Atletico now brings the game to the opposition. Gabriel Obama miraculously misses a free tap in thus the half time score is 1-0 to Jeonbuk.

Three minutes after the restart Jeonbuk receives a yellow card and are down to ten men for 4 minutes. Atletico Madrid immediately takes advantage. A well placed shot by captain Oscar Bazaga and the Spaniards draw level. Not long after that Fitzgerald nearly puts Atletico in front, but his shot hits the crossbar. After this moment neither team is really dangerous anymore. The famous Spanish fury originates outside the pitch instead of inside. This leads to a red card for an Atletico staff member and a yellow card for Miquel Gil. No changes in the scoreline though and the match finishes 1-1.
