Het eerste gevaar van de wedstrijd komt van RB Leipzig, maar het schot gaat een meter naast. In de zevende minuut breekt Club Brugge spits Musuay door, maar Sakai laat dit niet zomaar gebeuren en trekt de spits aan z’n shirt, wat hem een rode kaart oplevert.

Club Brugge verzilvert de man-meer situatie al snel. Amengai treft doel met z’n schot van buiten het zestienmetergebied. In de negende minuut wordt het direct al 2-0 door dezelfde Amengai, ingeleid door slordig balverlies van keeper Hähner. Spits Musuay krijgt na een mooie rush de kans om nog voor rust op 3-0 te komen, maar zijn schot gaat voorlangs.

The first threat of the match comes from RB Leipzig, but the shot goes a meter wide. In the seventh minute, Club Brugge striker Musuay breaks through, but Sakai doesn’t let it go and pulls him back by his shirt—earning a straight red card.

Club Brugge quickly makes use of the numerical advantage. Amengai scores with a shot from outside the penalty area. Just two minutes later, it’s 2–0 again through Amengai, after a careless mistake by goalkeeper Hähner.

Striker Musuay gets a chance to make it 3–0 before halftime after a brilliant run, but his shot rolls wide.

In the second half, Club Brugge continues to dominate possession, but struggles to extend the lead. Grady McDonnell comes close, hitting the post, and the rebound is fired over the bar. Moments later, Tobias Lund Jensen (Club Brugge) beats his man inside the box and creates a shooting opportunity, but Hähner makes the save.

The match ends 2–0 for Club Brugge, giving the Belgian side a strong start to the tournament.
