Report
The match for 5th place was a meeting between two sides who already met in the group stage. Benfica were victorious (3-1) on that occassion.
This match both teams were very equal to eachother. A judgement error in the German defense after two minutes, led to the opening goal by João Gonçalves. For over 20 minutes this was the only difference between the sides. Neither team really created any chances or could really trouble eachothers defence.
Six minutes into the second half it was Matthew dos Santos who cut inside the box from the lef tand powerfully shot the equaliser behind the Portuguese goalie. The rest of the match didn’t see any action anymore and a penalty shoot out was the logical result.
This was also a close affair, but Benfica eventually came out on top 6-7, thus securing 5th place.
