Day 2: Semi-finalists are known

The four teams that will play in the semi-finals are now known. FC Twente and Anderlecht from Poule A will play against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Ajax.

In Poule A, FC Twente put themselves a good position after their win against Anderlecht on Friday. Sparta also seemed to do well, but the team from Rotterdam lost their match against Anderlecht with just a minor difference. After that they suffered a great defeat against FC Twente.

The Brazilians from Pão de Açúcar, who have made it to the semi-finals in the last two years, did not win a single game. Although they played some good football, every game was lost. In the last match Anderlecht made it to second place in the group stages with a 1-0 victory over Pão de Açúcar.

In the other Poule, PSV were in the lead after day one, but they lost their second match of the group against Ajax, after playing with ten men for most of the game. Memphis Depay was shown two yellow cards and sent off just before half-time and Ajax were almost certain of a spot in the semi-finals. After this win they only had to play Tottenham Hotspur, who already had no chance of making it into semi finals.

PSV and Borussia Mönchengladbach, who also defeated Tottenham, had to decide who would become the last team to make it into the semi finals. Even though they struggled until the last minute, PSV couldn't get more than a draw (1-1), which wasn't enough to see them through.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Sunday. After that the games for the 7th and 8th places (Pão de Açúcar - Tottenham Hotspur FC) and the 5th and 6th places (PSV - Sparta Rotterdam) will be played. The final will be played at 15:00h.
