Monaco has made an excellent start in the Otten Innovation Cup. English side Chelsea was defeated 3-2 after a high-scoring encounter. Monaco captain Pape Cabral reflects on the match: “It was a very intense game. Chelsea has a strong team and is comfortable on the ball. We’re happy that we managed to finish the match with a win.”
Crucial Third Goal
In the first half, Chelsea had more possession, but Monaco was the most dangerous on the counterattack. The Monegasques converted this into a 1-0 lead. After halftime, goals came quickly at both ends. Cabral commented: “After our second goal, we quickly conceded two goals. But we are especially pleased that we managed to score a third goal in the second half and secure the victory.”
Fast-Paced Play
Monaco played under rules that were new to them, which took some getting used to. Cabral was nonetheless enthusiastic: “These new rules make the game fast and very intense. We love it when the game is played at a high pace.”
Renowned Teams
Cabral is pleased that Monaco is participating in this prestigious youth tournament: “It’s a tournament with a long history and renowned teams take part. We are very happy to be participating for the first time as Monaco this year. Naturally, we want to play exciting matches and hope to win the tournament.”
Tomorrow, Monaco will play two more group matches, first against Atlético Madrid and then against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC. The first and second-placed teams in each group will then advance to the semifinals on Sunday, competing for first place.
