Day 1: Hosts PSV off to a good start

Today the Otten Innovation Cup finally started. Top teams from around the world took on the experiment with new game rules. It quickly became obvious that players learn very fast and teams know how to use the rules to their advantages.

The tournament started with the first matches in group A.

Red Bull Bragantino and FC Utrecht kicked off on the main pitch. The Brazilian side immediately made their intentions clear. Fast attacking play led to a number of chances. The opening goal on the brink of half time, was unfortunately dissallowed.
The second half saw more of the same, with Red Bull now converting the chances resulting in a 2-0 win.

The other match in group A was between Rangers FC and RSC Anderlecht. RSC Anderlecht had the better of play, but both teams managed to create some clear cut chances. It was somewhat of a miracle the match was still goalless at half time.
In the second half the Scots started stronger, but RSC Anderlecht killed the match with three goals in seven minutes time. Right before the final whistle they managed to score another and secure their biggest ever opening match win 0-4. Gross playing time 71 minutes.

Hosts PSV started its tournament with a match against Manchester United. PSV created a number of chances, but it was the Red Devils opening the score. This was also the score at half time.

In the second half Elvic Jagers equalized, after which PSV were down to nine men after two yellow cards. By effectively using the new rules and a lot of substitutes, PSV was able to keep up the pace. When being awarded a free kick, coach Vincent Heilmann brought Robin van Duiven on as a sub. Robin converted the free kick beautifully through the post 2-1, securing the hosts opening day win.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC and FC Kobenhavn really matched eachother in the other game. Not a lot of spectacle or chances. The Danes took the lead via Thomas Jorgensen, before Jeonbuk equalized shortly after. Score 1-1 at half time.

The second half was much of the same. Litlle chances and two teams with not a lot between them. After a beautiful solo run and cross, it was Amin Chiakha who gave FC Kobenhavn the win 1-2. Gross playing time 67 minutes.

Tomorrow the tournament will start at 10.00h with RSC Anderlecht - Red Bull Bragantino on the main pitch and FC Utrecht vs Rangers FC on pitch 1.

See you all tomorrow!
