PSV wins 73rd edition of the Otten Cup

PSV has won the 73rd edition of the Otten Cup by beating RSC Anderlecht. It was their first tournament win since 2015.

PSV started the tournament on friday with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United. Saturday's results were not what the club wanted, with draws against both FC Kobenhavn (2-2) and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (1-1) ending in second place behind FC Kobenhavn.

The semi final saw a match up with tournament favorites Red Bull Bragantino. PSV started well and eventually scored the opening goal. In the second half a different picture, with Red Bull Bragantino pressing a bit more and scoring two goals taking the lead. Just when thinking this was it, Jesper Uneken's equalizer secured a penalty shoot out. PSV won it 5-4, thus reaching their 36th ever final.

The final meant a 10th tournament meeting with RSC Anderlecht, always a difficult opponent. It was a tightly contested first half, that was mainly fought on the midfield. Both teams got a couple of chances, but half-time was reached with 0-0.

Second half saw more of the same. Nothing much between both teams. Hosts PSV came closest to a goal with a shot by Benjamin Khaderi and a shot on the inside of the post shot by Tai Abed.

Two minutes before the end, it's a great individual action by that same Tai abed that settles the final. A Bergkamp v Newcastle like goal is the crown on his tournament.
